Before After
The Lighting Problem
The project involved the replacement of lighting and the associated lighting controls in their 2000M² warehouse.
The logistical headache of delivering this project within a ‘live’ warehouse facility was overcome through meticulous planning; a detailed understanding of the Client’s requirements and the full co-operation of all parties.
The original lighting was 13 metres above the ground which made it inadequate, as well as costly to run and very difficult to maintain
The Lighting Solution
When the customer awarded the contract to Cameron Barclay, they cited two reasons for their choice. The first was the innovative design that they had submitted. The second was their enviable reputation in the industry for delivering high quality work on time and to budget.
Our design involved replacing the existing sodium lighting with the very latest energy-efficient, long life, T5 light fittings, known as luminaries. These were complemented by a lighting control system that only activated the lights when there was some activity in the storage aisle: typically, this meant that only two of the nine aisles were lit at any one time. The consequential savings were very significant.
From a health and safety perspective the new system delivered enormous benefits. As the photographs show, the increased levels of illumination were incredible. The new system produced a consistent 300 LUX at ground level in all areas.
Additionally, selected lights incorporated emergency circuits while some retained a residual 10% illumination. This meant that some lighting was retained in certain areas at all times, so the aisles were never in total darkness.
Maintenance
We addressed the maintenance issue by installing Panasonic LUXLIFTs to all fittings. Operated with a remote control handset, this system allows the whole fitting to be lowered to ground level for tube replacement, cleaning and maintenance.
The Client’s Verdict
The Client’s Warehouse Supply Manager commented:
"The combination of Cameron Barclay’s staff and our own staff made this logistically difficult project run extremely smoothly. I feel it is appropriate to commend your staff for the effort they have made during this project. They have shown a complete understanding of what is needed from a Health & Safety and from the customer perspective. This understanding meant that they were able to deliver the project ahead of schedule."
