Local Space - Office Refurbishment Project

Local Space offers the opportunity of a ‘temporary to permanent housing initiative’ providing settled homes on a scale hitherto unseen in London or anywhere else. They are a pathfinder organisation that is taking local authorities statutory duty to house the homeless to a new and exciting level.

After being set up as an independent housing association by Newham Borough Council in 2006, Local Space acquired 1,000 properties in its first two years. It now owns 1,500 leased and rented residencies. These will be available as settled homes to homeless families on lease terms of up to 15 years.

Cost-efficient Refurbishment

When Local Space found their current office it was in a bad state of repair and needed a complete upgrade. As an organisation that needed to minimise expenditure, they wanted a proficient but very cost effective solution.

The Cost-saving Solutions

Cameron Barclay’s Project Director really understood Local Space’s requirements and foresaw the refit’s potential problems. Following a consultation period, he identified cost saving solutions and also advised on the re-use and/or disposal of existing furniture, IT & telephony equipment.

Cameron Barclay took on the entire project, including move management. The project was delivered on time and within budget.
